GOV. RDR, TONYBOY FLOIRENDO AGREE TO HAVE BABY SUAYBAGUIO AS GOV STANDARD BEARER
Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario and former Congressman Antonio "Tonyboy" Floirendo Jr. have agreed, for the unity of the two ruling parties in the province, to have Vice Governor Victorio "Baby" Suaybaguio Jr. as a coalition's gubernatorial standard bearer in 2016 polls.
The big news swept through the provincial Capitol Wednesday morning that the two top political honchos in the province had agreed during a luncheon meeting, together with Suaybaguio and Congressman Anthony "AGR" del Rosario Tuesday at Tahanan ng Gobernador inside the Capitol complex at Mankilam, Tagum City.
In effect, there would be a coalition between the governor-led Liberal Party and Floirendo-led Kusog Baryohanon party in the coming May 9, 2016 election, each of which would have to dominantly rule on their respective bailiwick districts, the same pattern that had emerged in the last 2013 polls, a highly-placed source from the Capitol said.
The LP and Kusog rule in the province's Districts 1 and 2, respectively.
The source said that under the unity agreement ex-Cong. Floirendo would call the shots who would be the coalition's vice gubernatorial standard bearer.
Floirendo initially endorsed former Panabo Mayor Rey Gavina for vice governor while Rodney del Rosario, who was reportedly first bruited about to be a gubernatorial material, was said to have been positioned either for IGACOS mayor or for vice governor, "if Rodney agrees with it," the source added.
Cong. AGR would seek reelection for his third term in the first district, while ex-Cong. Tonyboy would have his comeback for congressman in the second district.
Gov. Del Rosario will launch soonest a caucus with the province's mayors relating this agreement.
The source did not specifically say if the governor would take a political retirement in 2016, as he was earlier rumored to run for IGACOS mayor.
Del Rosario and Suaybaguio are on their last term and they have been together in tandem as governor and vice governor, respectively, for four terms already.
Many Tagum pundits have immediately hailed the agreement making Baby as the common coalition's gubernatorial standard bearer as a political masterstroke. (Rural Urban News/Cha Monforte)
